Make in India important for both economic, strategic reasons: Parrikar

Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar today stressed on the ‘Make in India’ initiative saying that it was important for both strategic and economic reasons.

Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of Global Business Forum 2015, organised by allumi of Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, Mr Parikkar said, “Make in India is very important because strategically you should not rely on anyone else. In the time of war for various reasons you may not get the weapons which you may require. You will have to spend huge money on that eventuality.”

Stating that economically also it was beneficial as it could generate technology, he said, “I think export should be encouraged because there are many small countries who for their defense look towards India. Export of defense products will not only provide us economical benefits but it will also enhance ties with India’s friends.” Read More…
